Altered Beings

I have met a woman on-line that I like and after several discussions about doing some type of swap, we decided to exchange 10 4 x 4's and title them "Altered Beings".  This will be several months in the works but I am posting my first one today.  

Poe 4 x 4

For the month of October, I joined in on a challenge to create a 4 x 4 piece of art that had a Poe theme picking a verrse that inspired my creativity.  We were required to make 37 copies of this piece along with the verse on another 4 x 4 page to send along to the Hostess of the swap. I am really looking forward to getting some nice stash back in the mail.

1001 Journals

• Has anyone posted their journals to 1001 Journals and sent one to travel around the World?  I sent one postal back in the Winter of this year and it was supposed to travel every 4 weeks, but unfortunately it was kept by one person for months, so now it is with the 3rd person in line out of 20 people.  I sure hope it comes back to me one day.  I wanted to send a second one out there called "Torsos" but after my experience with the first one, I decided that I would wait and work on this journal by myself.  Really, it is more of an "Altered Book" project.  Never the less, I am intrigued by the human body and how amazing it is.  So many shapes, colors and textures of skin, beauty abound, inside and out.  To not be perfect, but to honor what is perfect.  I thought I would post some of my torso images today.  When I think about what the human torso represents and what it contains-heart, lungs, liver, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder large and small intestines, bladder, a uterus perhaps, reproductive organs.  So much packed into this amazing thing called a torso.  

What happened to July?

My intention for this summer was to photograph the many books that I have made and post them to my blog.  It didn't happen.  Instead, the summer was pretty much spent making sure that my husband and dog were taken care of.  My husband is slowly recovering from eye surgery but has returned to work two days a week and is busy with outdoor projects.  It has been an extremely rainy summer with the biggest event occurring on July 6th when we were hit with the biggest hail storm I have ever witnessed in my entire life.  Some of the hail measured 3 1/2 inches in diameter and took out the garden, huge amounts of ponderosa pine limbs, windshields, headlights, metal roofs, and hail damage to any car that was sitting out.  I hope to never be witness to that kind of storm again.  Flossie, my dog is coming along but still needs to be coaxed to drink fluids and watched carefully to make sure she doesn't pee in the house.  At least the tarps came up off the floor last weekend and her bladder is gradually stretching back to a size that can hold more urine now.  I just wished she liked to drink water, but she won't unless I flavor it with something she likes to eat. I did get to enjoy a month of visual journaling as a result of being motivated by the fabulous Kelly Kilmer's online journaling class.  This kept me distracted from all of the other drama going on in my life.  So, I will upload a few pages of those to share.  These are collages for my personal use only and not for sale.  Some may  or may not contain portions of copyrighted materials and therefore there is no intention to publish, reproduce or sell any of these pages.
